Summer stay in the Gorges du Loup: canyoning and hiking

The gorges on your doorstep.

Canyoning, hiking, mountain passes by bike and winding roads by motorbike: summer days start at the auberge and end on its terrace.

Summer stay

Stay right next to the gorges.

The Auberge des Gorges du Loup, a hotel-restaurant at Pont-du-Loup, is the starting point for a summer stay in the Gorges du Loup: canyoning, hiking, cycling and motorbike rides all begin at the foot of the auberge. The coast is 40 minutes away; here, the day starts with breakfast on the terrace, the river just below.

Why stay at Pont-du-Loup rather than on the coast?

Because the Gorges du Loup begin at the auberge's door. Le Pont-du-Loup is the hamlet where the gorges open out onto the valley; canyoning trips, footpaths and the gorge road all set off from here. No early-morning drives, and dinner facing the gorges in the evening.

The village of Tourrettes-sur-Loup is 8 km away, Vence and Grasse about twenty minutes, and the sea less than 30 km: close enough for a day at the beach, far enough for a quiet night's sleep.

Canyoning

Canyoning in the Gorges du Loup: out from the auberge and back again

The Gorges du Loup are one of the best-known canyoning spots in the world, with guided routes for every level. The auberge does not run the activity itself; please contact the canyoning and river-hiking operators directly, and the team can point you to those who work in the gorges.

Once you are out of the water, the 200-seat terrace is waiting with a hot meal. Canyoning groups are regulars; for more than ten people, please book. Our page on our restaurant with a terrace in the Gorges du Loup has all the details.

Hikes, the Saut du Loup and hilltop villages

Footpaths lead from Pont-du-Loup to Gourdon, one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, perched above the gorges, and to the Saut du Loup, where the river tumbles down in waterfalls. A trail from the Lavanderaie de Marie runs above the cliffs, with the best view over the gorges. Part of the gorges is a protected Natura 2000 site.

For gentler days, there is Tourrettes-sur-Loup, the village of violets, Le Bar-sur-Loup and Grasse, the perfume capital.

Which passes can you cycle from the auberge?

The Col de Vence climbs straight from Pont-du-Loup, and the loops towards Gourdon, Coursegoules and the Gorges du Loup are local cycling classics. The auberge regularly welcomes cyclists, with a private car park and a hearty meal when you get back.

For motorcyclists, the gorge road and the passes around Gourdon and Vence are one bend after another. A parking area behind an electric gate is reserved for motorbikes, and the dining room with its fireplace is there to retreat to on cooler evenings.
